Unable to be seen. Concealed from sight. Hidden. Ignored. Not taken into consideration. Overlooked. Unimportant. Invisible. Not needed, good enough or valued.
These are all terms that can be used to describe a feeling of being unloved and unseen. Sometimes, we are not physically alone but still, we feel unwanted by those around us. This could be due to an issue like abuse whereby, you could be being abused by those who are meant to show you love. It also could be a deep sense of being misunderstood, you may be surrounded by people who show you care but feel unable to connect.
If these thoughts and feelings remain unchecked, they can influence the way we see God. We can end up feeling unwanted by God and feel as if He has rejected us. But I want you to know, you are SO SO precious to God. He did not make you by mistake, He was intentional in making you, He wants you and desires for you to be near to Him.
The circumstances around how you came into this world may reflect that of rejection, maybe you didn’t grow up with your parents in your life, maybe they told you that you were a mistake and they hadn’t planned for you. The thing is, God is the divine planner and so whilst humans may not have planned to have a child when they did – God Almighty Himself did plan for you to come, He intended for you to be on this planet at exactly this time.
Confronting rejection starts first with accepting and embracing the love of God and becoming one with the fact that HE WANTS YOU. He loves you – you are so so desired and precious in His sight. The love and acceptance you desire in life must first be found in His unwavering love for you. Only then can you move towards loving yourself and embracing love from others.
How can we see God’s love for us? From scripture, we know that He made the ultimate for us through the sacrifice of Jesus even before we knew Him and knowing that some of us would never turn to Him.
“For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Saviour] shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (AMP)
The above scripture is one of the most popular verses that we all hear that it can be easy to overlook the weight it carries in healing roots of rejection. This scripture describes the sheer love that God has for each individual and we must continue to repeat it to ourselves until we understand this in our core being.
The first thing to glean from this verse, “God so greatly loved” – this is not just any ordinary love. It is a great love. It is a love that caused Him to GIVE for you. A lot of people walk through this life feeling rejected, feeling worthless and as if they have no place in the world. But the truth is, God LOVES you. Ephesians 1:5 (MSG) says “Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!)”. Settle and know within you that God loves you greatly. Secondly, this version further expands on this love to say God “dearly prized” the world. To be “prized” is to be valued extremely highly, God values you highly.
God loves us to the extent that He gave “His [One and] only begotten Son”. If you have children, can you imagine sacrificing one of them for the sake of others? Can you imagine giving them away KNOWING that they would suffer and die? This is what God did for us. He knew that Jesus would suffer but He knew that through this suffering, the world would be saved. He loves us and thought we were worth it.
This sacrifice was made so that “whoever believes” would be saved – whoever believes means whoever, essentially saying some may believe some may not but whoever does will have eternal life. God chose to make this sacrifice knowing there was a chance you may never believe it happened, knowing that you could indeed reject this, but He took the risk because YOU ARE WORTH IT to God.
These truths need to be meditated on and ingested so deep within your soul. You must know deep within you that you are loved, so so loved. The circumstances of your birth, your life and your present do not negate this love. You may have been rejected by men in the past and present, but this is not the same view with which you should see God – man may reject but God IS love and He embraces you. Believe and let this love encompass you today.
